Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 30 October 2026

1. About these terms

These terms govern use of the Pierre van Ryneveld Optometrist website, the online-booking link and general practice administration. They do not replace the professional duties of our optometrists, an individual quotation or order agreement, or any rights that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Pierre van Ryneveld Optometrist is a trading name of Fochville Oogkundiges Inc., registration number 2015/436524/21 (referred to as “PvR”, “we”, “us” or “the practice”). The practice is at Shop 9, Ryneveld Lifestyle Centre, 75 Ryneveld Avenue, Pierre van Ryneveld, Centurion, 0157.

2. Website information is not individual clinical advice

The articles, guides and other information on this website are provided for general education. They are not a diagnosis, prescription, emergency service or substitute for an examination by an appropriately registered healthcare practitioner.

Eye-care decisions depend on the patient’s symptoms, medical and ocular history, examination findings, prescription, age, visual needs and other individual factors. Do not start, stop or change treatment or corrective lenses solely because of website content.

3. Appointments and online booking

Appointments may be arranged directly with the practice, by telephone, through WhatsApp or through the MXOpti online-booking service supplied by OptiMax (Pty) Ltd. An online appointment is confirmed when the booking system displays or sends a confirmation. If no confirmation is received, or the details appear incorrect, please contact the practice.

PvR currently does not impose a stated cancellation, late-arrival or no-show penalty. Patients should nevertheless notify the practice as soon as possible if they cannot attend. A late arrival may reduce the time available or require an appointment to be rescheduled so that other patients are not unfairly delayed.

The practice may need to move or cancel an appointment because of practitioner availability, emergencies, load shedding, system interruptions or circumstances outside its reasonable control. We will use reasonable efforts to contact the patient and offer another suitable time.

4. Children’s appointments

PvR can usually perform a comprehensive eye examination from about five or six years of age, depending on the child’s understanding, communication and ability to cooperate. A younger child may be screened to help determine whether referral for a full diagnostic assessment by an ophthalmologist or other appropriate practitioner is indicated.

A parent, guardian or other authorised responsible person may need to provide consent, history and identifying information. The practitioner will decide which procedures are appropriate for the individual child and whether referral is needed.

5. Contact-lens appointments

Unless the practice gives different instructions, contact-lens wearers should remove their lenses at home and arrive wearing their glasses. This helps the practitioner assess the eyes and prescription without recent lens wear affecting the appointment.

A contact-lens fitting may include confirming the spectacle prescription and relevant history, selecting a trial lens, teaching insertion, removal and care, allowing a settling period, and reviewing vision, fit, comfort and any complaints. If suitable, a further trial period may be advised before lenses are ordered. If the result is not satisfactory, another lens design or prescription may be tried. A trial lens does not guarantee that a particular product will be suitable or available.

6. Medical-aid benefits and payment

PvR is contracted to most medical schemes and uses Healthbridge for benefit enquiries and claims. Where possible, available benefits and a quotation will be discussed before work proceeds. A benefit confirmation is information supplied by the scheme or administrator at that time; it is not a guarantee that the scheme will pay a claim.

The patient or responsible person remains liable for amounts not paid by the medical scheme, including exclusions, limits, co-payments, exhausted benefits or claim reversals, unless PvR agrees otherwise in writing. Cash packages, the Wednesday pensioner offering and Specfin finance are subject to their current terms, eligibility and availability. Prices and benefits can change.

7. Spectacles, contact lenses and other products

The price of prescription eyewear may depend on the examination, prescription, lens design and material, treatments, frame, measurements, supplier and selected package. PvR will explain the relevant options and provide a quotation before an order is finalised.

Many optical products are made or ordered to an individual prescription and measurements. Any deposit, payment, cancellation, remake, return or refund conditions that apply to a specific order should be explained before acceptance. Nothing in these terms removes a patient’s rights regarding defective, unsafe or incorrectly supplied goods under the Consumer Protection Act or other applicable law.

8. Professional scope and referrals

PvR’s optometrists practise within the scope for which they are registered. None currently holds the additional ocular diagnostic privilege. Examinations, the use of diagnostic medicines and the management of ocular disease remain subject to each practitioner’s registered scope, training and the applicable professional rules. Where a concern falls outside that scope or requires medical or surgical assessment, the patient will be referred to an ophthalmologist or another appropriate healthcare practitioner.

No website wording or booking option promises that a particular test, medicine, diagnosis, treatment or referral outcome will be provided at the practice.

9. Urgent eye concerns

The website, email, WhatsApp and online-booking system are not emergency services. Sudden loss of vision, a marked or rapidly worsening visual change, severe eye pain, significant injury, chemical exposure, or new flashes and floaters may require prompt assessment. Contact an appropriate emergency service, ophthalmologist or healthcare facility without waiting for a routine online appointment.

10. Communications and information supplied by patients

Patients are responsible for giving accurate, complete and current contact, medical-scheme, health-history and prescription information. Please check appointment confirmations, quotations, prescriptions and order details and tell the practice promptly if anything appears incorrect.

Email and WhatsApp may be used for practice communications and for requested documents. These channels carry privacy risks outside PvR’s direct control. Send sensitive information only to the confirmed practice contact details and follow the Privacy Policy.

11. Third-party services and links

The website may link to MXOpti, medical schemes, finance providers, professional bodies, suppliers or other third-party services. Those services operate under their own terms and privacy arrangements. A link does not mean that PvR controls or guarantees the third party’s content, availability, decisions or security.

12. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the website’s original text, branding, layout and other original material belong to PvR or are used under licence. Content may be viewed or printed for personal, non-commercial information. It may not be republished, sold, misrepresented or used to create a competing publication without permission, except where the law permits.

13. Availability, responsibility and statutory rights

PvR takes reasonable care to keep the website useful and accurate, but content can become outdated and online services may be interrupted. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or that every page will be free from technical errors.

To the extent permitted by South African law, PvR is not responsible for loss caused solely by reliance on general website information instead of obtaining appropriate individual advice, or by the operation of an independent third-party service outside our reasonable control. This clause does not exclude or limit liability that may not lawfully be excluded, including applicable rights under the Consumer Protection Act, professional duties, or liability for negligent clinical care.

14. Privacy

Personal information is handled as described in our Privacy Policy. By using the website or booking service, you acknowledge that information must be processed to respond to an enquiry, administer an appointment and provide requested services.

15. Changes and governing law

We may update these terms when our services, providers or legal duties change. The current version and revision date will appear on this page. South African law applies, and disputes are subject to the jurisdiction of the competent South African courts.

16. Contact

Questions about these terms may be sent to info@pvroptom.co.za or discussed by calling 012 662 0188. WhatsApp enquiries may be sent to 061 592 8356.
