This disclaimer applies to the website operated by Pierre van Ryneveld Optometrist, a trading name of Fochville Oogkundiges Inc., registration number 2015/436524/21. It should be read together with our Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
2. General information only
The articles, patient guides, service descriptions and answers on this website are intended to help readers understand common eye-care topics. They provide general educational information only. They are not a diagnosis, prescription, emergency service or a personalised treatment plan, and they do not create a practitioner-patient relationship by themselves.
A website cannot take account of every person’s symptoms, medical and ocular history, examination findings, prescription, medicines, age, occupation or visual needs. Do not delay an examination, ignore professional advice, or start, stop or change treatment or corrective lenses solely because of something read here.
3. Professional scope and referral
PvR’s optometrists practise within the scope for which they are registered. None currently holds the additional ocular diagnostic privilege. Examinations, the use of diagnostic medicines and the management of ocular disease remain subject to each practitioner’s registered scope, training and the applicable professional rules.
Where a concern falls outside that scope, requires medical or surgical assessment, or cannot be appropriately managed at the practice, the patient may be referred to an ophthalmologist or another suitable healthcare practitioner. Website content does not promise that a particular test, medicine, diagnosis, treatment or referral outcome will be provided.
4. Urgent symptoms
This website, email, WhatsApp and the MXOpti online-booking system are not monitored emergency services. Sudden loss of vision, a marked or rapidly worsening visual change, severe eye pain, significant injury, chemical exposure, or new flashes and floaters may require prompt assessment. Contact an appropriate emergency service, ophthalmologist or healthcare facility without waiting for a routine online appointment or a response to a message.
5. Accuracy and changes
We take reasonable care when preparing and reviewing website information and aim to align it with current professional guidance and the services actually available at PvR. Eye-care guidance, products, medical-scheme rules, supplier information, prices and practice arrangements can nevertheless change. Errors or omissions may also occur.
The date on an article or legal page indicates when that page was last materially reviewed. Readers should confirm information that is important to a healthcare, purchase or benefit decision directly with the practice or the relevant provider.
6. Medical-aid and financial information
References to medical-aid benefits, Healthbridge claims, cash packages, pensioner offerings or Specfin are general information. Eligibility, limits, exclusions, authorisation, claim payment, credit approval and product availability depend on the applicable provider and the patient’s circumstances. A benefit check or quotation is not a guarantee that a medical scheme will pay a claim.
7. Online booking and communications
An MXOpti booking is confirmed when the platform displays or sends confirmation. Patients should contact PvR if no confirmation is received or if the details are incorrect. Email and WhatsApp are convenient communication methods but may carry privacy and delivery risks outside the practice’s direct control; they should not be relied on for emergencies.

Links to MXOpti, medical schemes, professional bodies, suppliers, finance providers or other websites are provided for convenience or supporting information. PvR does not control independent third-party websites and cannot guarantee their content, availability, privacy practices, decisions or security. A link does not amount to endorsement of every statement, product or service on that site.
9. Responsibility and statutory rights
To the extent permitted by South African law, PvR is not responsible for loss caused solely by reliance on general website information instead of obtaining appropriate individual advice, or by an independent third-party service outside our reasonable control.
Nothing in this disclaimer excludes or limits liability that may not lawfully be excluded, including applicable rights under the Consumer Protection Act, professional duties, or liability for negligent clinical care.
